Winnie the Pooh time capsule buried as bear celebrates 100th birthday
The beloved children's tale is based on Sussex's very own Ashdown Forest
A time capsule is being buried in Sussex today to celebrate Winnie the Pooh's 100th birthday.
Around 20kg of memoribilia - including a 2000s teapot of Pooh's face and the book series signed by visitors to the 'Pooh-seum' - have been stashed to be opened in 100 years time.
The beloved children's tale is based on our very own Ashdown Forest, with author A.A Milne shopping in a neighbouring sweet shop which is now a cafe, gift shop and museum celebrating Pooh.
Neil Reid, who owns 'Pooh Corner', put together the capsule, and told Greatest Hits Radio that he's "delighted" to do something for the future and give fans the opportunity to get involved:
"We've had emails come in from all over the world that we are compiling now and putting in the time capsule just about people's love of Winnie the Pooh.
"And that's really special to see - all these people wanting to share their message of love and reasoning for following the joy of Winnie the Pooh."
It follows a series of events at Ashdown Forest hoped to encourage people to look after the forest for the next century.
"It's really important that children still maintain the ability to read and we really must focus on that as something that the future allows us to do," Neil added.
"It might be in a different format. Paper might be a rare resource and there might be issues where we are tapping an iPad, but the art of reading shouldn't change. It should still just be the format and the delivery that might change.
"The beauty of that is that it allows great stories to continue forever." Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, smartspeaker, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Rayo app.
