VR headset shows Sussex children realities of knife crime
It's part of a week long awareness drive
Virtual reality headsets are being used to show young people in Sussex what could happen if they carry a knife.
It's as Sussex Police focus on educating children about the impacts of knife crime as part of a week-long awareness drive.
The immersive film, directed by Leon Oldstrong, is being shown to school pupils amidst officer visits.
It places the viewer in the shoes of the people affected by a murder.
Sussex Police's lead for serious violence and knife crime, Chief Inspector Jim Loader, said:
"I can sit here and talk about statistics.
"I can sit here and talk about what I've seen and the impacts of knife crime that I've seen across the county.
"But really watching that in that sort of immersive experience really brings home the impacts of knife carriage and knife use."
As well as education, there will also be a variety of operational activity running during Sceptre week including weapons sweeps, test purchasing, targeted patrols, leading to use of stop search and grounds for arrest, VR headsets, Live Facial Recognition deployments and surrender bins to remove knives from the streets. Â
