A van driver is facing jail for causing the death by dangerous driving of a highways worker on the M23.

Vilius Domarkas, 38, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Anthony Howe on July 8 by driving a Citroen Relay dangerously on the southbound carriageway of the motorway.

Sussex Police previously said emergency services were called before 1am on July 8 to a collision between a van and a highways worker on the M23 at Junction 9 southbound carriageway.

Mr Howe, a 65-year-old man from Kent, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Domarkas, of no fixed address, looked sincere as he entered his guilty plea at Hove Crown Court on Thursday, as family members attended remotely and in the public gallery.

He will be sentenced on September 28.
