Two charged after more than £2k in stolen alcohol found in car in Brighton

The pair are accused of committing thefts from supermarkets across Sussex

Twomen have been charged with a string of thefts of alcohol from supermarkets across Sussex.

Police arrested 39-year-old Cezar Soare and 37-year-old Andrei Secere after they were caught on CCTV acting suspiciously in the spirits aisle of the Asda store in Hollingbury in Brighton at around 6pm on Saturday (February 8th).

Officers found a car nearby containing bottles of spirits with a value of around £2,100. Many of them still had their security tags attached.

The incidents have been linked with attempted shoplifting attempts at stores in Brighton Marina and Newhaven on the same day, and in Chichester on November 28th last year.

The pair, both of no fixed address, were charged on Sunday and remanded in custody to appear in court the following morning on the following charges:

Soare was charged with:

• Five counts of theft from a shop

• Two counts of attempted theft from a shop

• Conspiring to steal from a shop

• Going equipped to steal

Secere was charged with:

• Three counts of theft from a shop

• Two counts of attempted theft from a shop

• Conspiring to steal from a shop

• Going equipped to steal

At Brighton Magistrates' Court on Monday (February 10th), the men were remanded into custody, with their next appearance due on March 10th.
