Runners urged to check travel plans ahead of Brighton marathon
The event's expected to be the city's biggest yet
Runners taking on the Brighton Marathon tomorrow are being asked to double check their travel plans ahead of the event.
It's as the race is expected to be the city's biggest yet, with around 15,000 people taking part.
Preston Park station - which is near the race village - is being closed in the morning of the race to prevent overcrowding on it's smaller platforms.
The first trains from the station will be the 11:02 Brighton to Bedford, followed by the 11:08 Bedford to Brighton, with the 11:17 London Victoria to Littlehampton the third to depart.
Runners are instead asked to travel into Brighton station and make a short walk to the village, with event marshals and signs assisting with the route.
While Preston Park station will re-open at 11am, both Hove and Brighton stations are expected to be busier than usual - with a queuing system in place for the busiest periods.
The race kicks off at 9:45am in Preston Park, with the speediest participants expected to finish up around 12:15.
Joe Carter, Event Lead of the Brighton Marathon Weekend, said: “Every year the Brighton Marathon Weekend gets bigger and better and this year is no different.
"There really is something for everyone, from the family-friendly Brighton Miles through to our world-famous Brighton Marathon and the innovative new Brighton Trail Marathon for those who want to experience a unique combination of trails and city.
“It’s such a fabulous weekend in Brighton’s calendar when communities come together."
