Three people remanded in custody after serious assault in Chichester park
Two men and a teenage boy were charged following a serious assault at Swanfield Community Centre park, with a 19-year-old victim taken to hospital and now discharged
Two men and a teenage boy have been remanded in custody following a serious assault at the Swanfield Community Centre park in Chichester on 19 June.
The incident took place at about 9.30pm when a group of men confronted another group in the park. A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been discharged.
Sussex Police arrested three people at the scene. Lee Pearce, 56, of Morants Close, Chichester, was charged with affray and possession of offensive weapons in both public and private places. Calub Pearce, 22, of no fixed address, was charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in public. A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in public, and failing to comply with a Community Protection Notice.
All three appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 21 June and were remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 21 July.
District Commander William Keating-Jones said: “Our officers responded quickly to a report of a serious assault in Chichester. Searches were completed and arrests were made, which has resulted in weapons being seized and removed from our streets.
“We continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with relevant information to help our investigation, such as CCTV or mobile phone footage to come forward.
“Meanwhile we continue to encourage residents to report crime to us, to ensure robust action can be taken.”
