Brighton's the Level to undergo £300,000 transformation
An adventure playground is being installed
One of Brighton's most popular play areas is set to undergo a complete refit worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.
An adventure playground is being installed on The Level.
The project, beginning on the 7th of September, will place existing play equipment, installed in 2012, with a vibrant new adventure playground aimed at children of all ages.
Key features of the playground include a dedicated toddler space with climbing, sliding, spinning and rocking items, as well as sensory items and a playhouse.
For older children, there will also be a large tower, climbing features, a tube-slide, Ninja Warrior ramp, and horizontal bars.
Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet Member for Sports, Recreation and Libraries, said: “The Level play area is one of the best loved and most popular in the city, but its constant use means it’s time for an upgrade.
“We are thrilled to unveil this exciting new design for a safe, accessible and welcoming play area which will meet the needs of children and families for many years to come.”
The new layout includes clear sightlines and additional spaces for family games, following feedback from parents and carers.
New “wetpour” safety surfacing will cover the area, facilitating movement without sandplay zones, which are being removed due to maintenance and safety concerns.
Where feasible, existing equipment and features, including fencing, will be recycled or reused, and some plants to be relocated to The Level or other city parks.
The work's expected to take 10 weeks to complete.
