Teenager on trial for fatal stabbing of 16-year-old over cannabis debt
Accused denies murder, claiming it was a reckless moment
A teenager is currently on trial at Hove Crown Court, accused of murdering Joshua Ingram, a 16-year-old, in a stabbing at Seaford railway station in East Sussex on 10th September 2025.
The 16-year-old defendant has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter but denies the charge of murder.
He is also facing charges, alongside two other youths aged 17 and 15, of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
The trial includes a charge against the 15-year-old for assisting an offender, while the 17-year-old has pleaded guilty to this charge.
Accused's Testimony
On Monday, the 16-year-old defendant explained to the jury that he did not intend to seriously harm Joshua during the incident.
He expressed regret saying, "I wish I could turn back time, not just for my sake but for Joshua’s as well."
When asked about the responsibility for Joshua's death, he replied, "Myself, sir," but maintained that he did not plan to kill him.
The defendant described carrying the knife as a habit and an "accessory" rather than a tool for violence.
Prosecution's Argument
Rossano Scamardella KC, prosecuting, characterised the 16-year-old as a "small-time dealer" seeking to recover a £20 cannabis debt from Joshua, which had led to the attack.
The prosecution detailed a series of messages read in court, suggesting that the attack was premeditated with intentions to "plot and plan."
The defendant refuted this claim, insisting the attack was impulsive and that he did not intend to follow through on the threats made in the messages.
The trial continues at Hove Crown Court as the jury hears further evidence and testimonies.
