A former Sussex Police officer has been added to the College of Policing’s barred list after gross misconduct proceedings found he had breached professional standards across multiple areas.

Ex-PC Daniel Kennedy faced allegations of domestic abuse involving three women over a span of nine years. On 3rd August 2025, Kennedy was placed under restrictions which included an instruction not to contact any of the victims. However, he was seen on CCTV with one of the victims on 15th August and again stopped by police with the same victim on 25th August during a routine vehicle stop.

Criminal investigations were launched but concluded with insufficient evidence to support a charge. Kennedy resigned from the force on 8th November while awaiting accelerated gross misconduct proceedings.

On 11th December, the hearing determined he had breached standards of professional behaviour related to Orders and Instructions, Honesty and Integrity, and Discreditable Conduct. Kennedy was told he would have been dismissed had he not already resigned.

Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme said: “This officer’s breaches of professional standards were sustained over an extended period of time, impacting multiple women.

“He has shown continued disregard for the force’s commitment and measures to protect these women, which has rightly resulted in the end of his policing career.”

Kennedy's actions during the investigation and his breaches of instructions disqualified him from continuing as a police officer, Wolstenholme added.
