Bluebell Railway will keep its steam trains out of service until at least September due to ongoing dry conditions.

The risk of lineside fires has led to the decision to extend heritage diesel operations beyond the Diesel Gala on 4th to 6th September.

The railway says its priority is to protect the landscape, particularly as it passes through environmentally significant areas in Sussex.

Steam services are seen as unsuitable under current conditions, so diesel trains will continue to operate, allowing the railway to stay open to visitors.

Dining and supper trains will also utilise diesel locomotives during this period.
