Emergency service crews successfully rescued three people who became stranded partway down a cliff in East Sussex over the weekend.

The individuals were stuck as daylight began to slip away in Fairlight on Saturday (28 March), prompting a rapid response from several coastguard teams.

The operation involved HM Coastguard Hastings and HM Coastguard Rye Bay.

In a social media post the rescuers said the three stranded people were brought to safety, uninjured but cold, before it got dark.

They were provided with blankets, jackets, and water as they were checked over after the rescue.

HM Coastguard Bexhill also offered a warning:

"As the days are still short and temperatures drop quickly after sunset, it's well worth keeping an eye on the time, planning your route and giving yourself plenty of daylight to get back safely - and please, stay away from cliff edges."
