Police in Sussex are appealing for witnesses following a racially aggravated attack on a bus in Brighton.

Officers were alerted to an incident taking place on Ditchling Road at around 4:35pm on October 3rd.

When responders arrived, they found several men recovering following the attack on the 26 bus.

Sussex Police soon ascertained the fight broke out after a man began to verbally abuse a woman on the bus, with another man intervening, prompting an altercation between the two men.

Another two men eventually stepped in to remove the aggressor from the bus at the Prince's Crescent bus stop, close to the Roundhill pub. After this, red paint was also sprayed both onto the bus, as well as inside it.

In the wake of the attack, the man fled from the scene and police are now appealing to the public to help track the man down.

He is described by police as being "around 5’7” and aged between 55 and 60". As well as this, officers said "he was wearing a beige baseball cap, blue coat and was carrying a rucksack".

Meanwhile, police are investigating a variety of options and leads, including combing through CCTV footage and are asking the public if they saw anything suspicious to get involved as quickly as possible.

Anyone who may have any information can get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 941 from October 3rd.
