Chicken nugget treat for PD Ava after Eastbourne chase
Police Dog Ava helped track down two stolen motorcycles
A diligent police dog has played a crucial role in tracking down two stolen motorbikes in Eastbourne, earning herself a box of chicken nuggets as reward.
The incident began on 3rd June when an off-duty officer spotted two motorcycles behaving suspiciously on Cross Levels Way, Eastbourne. One of the bikes lacked a number plate.
Local police units and the National Police Air Service helicopter collaborated to pursue the suspects and eventually located them in a woodland area.
This is where Police Dog Ava, a one-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd, stepped in to assist.
Having only become a fully licensed police dog in April, Ava was prepared to make her first arrest.
Quickly locating the suspects hiding in the woods, she facilitated their arrest.
The bikes were confirmed as stolen, and the two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of theft, dangerous driving, and failing to stop when instructed by police.
They have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
But Ava's work didn’t end there.
While escorting the suspects from the woods, Ava uncovered discarded crash helmets and tools, including a hammer, screwdriver, and pliers, which were allegedly hidden by the suspects.
Following the successful operation, Ava's handler treated her to chicken nuggets.
