NHS Sussex is asking for our help to free up emergency departments for those who need it most this bank holiday.

The health service is urging people to pick the right service for their needs.

It comes as the bank holiday is expected to increase pressure on the service - while a spike in norovirus cases has already impacted bed availability.

Dr Charlotte Canniff, chief medical officer for NHS Sussex, said: “We’re encouraging people to take a few moments to familiarise themselves with the NHS services available in their area so they know where to turn if they need care.

“Community pharmacies are often the quickest and most convenient place to get expert advice and treatment for many common conditions, and many will be open across the bank holiday period.

Pharmacists are highly skilled healthcare professionals who can provide advice, treatment and support for a wide range of everyday health concerns."

Community pharmacies are remaining open at various times throughout the bank holiday - offering advice and treatment without the need to go to the GP.

Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs), Minor Injury Units (MIUs), GP services, and NHS111 are also available for urgent health concerns that are not life-threatening
