Man jailed for sexual offences against young girl in West Sussex
Reginald Chan sentenced for multiple sexual offences
A Billingshurst man has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison after admitting to multiple sexual offences, including the abuse of a young girl he knew.
Reginald Chan, 36, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court after pleading guilty to several charges, including sexual assault on a child under the age of 13, possession of indecent and prohibited images of children, possession of extreme pornography, voyeurism, and breaching a sexual risk order.
Investigations began after concerned parents reported Chan exposing himself through the window of a property, which overlooks a primary school.
Following these reports, police conducted extensive searches of Chan's residence in Billingshurst, revealing electronic devices containing child sexual abuse images and recordings of historic offences against the young victim.
Chan was arrested in early November 2022 and was living in poor conditions at the time.
Officers seized more than 50 devices from his property, and further prohibited devices were found in his possession during a subsequent arrest.
Chan's sentencing includes an extended two-year licence period and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which is in place indefinitely.
He is also registered as a sex offender.
Detective Chief Inspector Kay Hutchings commented on the case, saying, “This has been a complex investigation after concerns were raised about Chan’s behaviour. We take reports of sexual offending extremely seriously.”
Sussex Police urges anyone with additional information on further offences committed by Chan to report using the reference Operation Colwell.
Chan's convictions aim to prevent access to children and restrict his use of electronic devices without supervision.
