A 34-year-old man has been charged after reports a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in Hastings.

A woman in her 30s called police to report the attack that a man had followed her into her home address before driving home on Sunday 13 April.

Abdulhamid Alammar, from Muriel Way in St Leonards on Sea, was subsequently arrested and charged with rape and sexual assault by penetration.

He has also been charged with a count of sexual assault by touching in relation to a separate report made by another victim in 2023.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before a court, to be confirmed, on 13 May.

Detective Inspector Carol Shoesmith, of East Sussex Safeguarding Investigation Unit, said: “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure all victims of rape and sexual assault are supported and receive the justice they deserve.

“Please report any crimes or incidents to us online, via 101 or by dialling 999 in an emergency. You will be heard, believed and supported.”
