Man charged with rape in Brighton
A 21 year old was reportedly attacked on the beach earlier this month
A 35-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences following an alleged rape on Brighton seafront.
On the 4th of May, police received a report that a 21-year-old woman had been raped on the beach opposite the Grand Hotel at around 2am on the 3rd of May.
Following the report, police launched an investigation and arrested Bilal Alkadour, a 35-year-old Syrian national from Cromwell Road, Newark-on-Trent.
He has been charged with sexual assault, assault by penetration, and rape of a woman aged 16 years or over.
Alkadour appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 16th May and has been remanded in custody.
He is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 15th June.
Chief Superintendent Adam Hays stated that specialist detectives have been working tirelessly to identify a suspect and collect evidence:
“I can confirm we are not currently looking for anybody else in connection with this investigation.
“The victim is being supported by our officers, and this will continue as we look ahead to court proceedings. I would like to thank her for the courage she has shown in reporting this matter and assisting with our enquiries.
“I know this incident will be concerning to the public, and we will continue to conduct round the clock patrols on the seafront while working with our partners to protect the public and safeguard vulnerable people.”
