Man charged following police pursuit of stolen van in Eastbourne

Shane Brett facing multiple charges after dramatic police chase

A 30-year-old man has been charged with several driving offences following a police pursuit in Eastbourne.

The incident began at around 6:20 am on 30th January, when police responded to a report of a stolen Asda van at Sovereign Harbour Retail Park in Pevensey Bay Road.

Officers conducted a tactical pursuit, successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop in The Fairway, Newhaven.

Shane Brett, of Cinque Foil, Peacehaven, was arrested and, the following day, charged with theft of a motor vehicle, burglary other than a dwelling, dangerous driving, and driving without third party insurance.

He was initially remanded into custody and appeared later the same day at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

Brett has been remanded until his next court appearance on 2nd March at Lewes Crown Court.
