Man charged with murder after stabbing in Brighton

One man died and another was taken to hospital for treatment

A man has been charged following a violent incident in Brighton that left one person dead and another badly hurt.

Emergency services were called to a property in Regency Square around 2.10am on the 26th of April after reports of a fight.

Inside, two men were found with stab wounds.

One of the men, in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment but 37-year-old Tio Day was pronounced dead at the scene.

Daniel Bassett, who doesn't have a fixed address, was arrested nearby at a hotel after reports of concerning behaviour.

On the 28th of April, he was charged with murder and attempted murder.

He's been kept in custody and is set to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on 29th April.

Brighton and Hove Chief Superintendent Adam Hays shared condolences, saying: "Our thoughts are with Tio's family and friends at this very difficult time."

"Tragic incidents like this have significant consequences. Lives are lost or changed forever, families are left grieving, and entire communities are affected.

"We will continue to work tirelessly to tackle knife crime in our communities, and hold those found responsible to account."

Sussex Police are still looking for information that could help in the investigation.
