Man charged over corrosive substance attack at Crawley station

A 24-year-old is facing several charges including possession of a corrosive substance

A man has appeared in court following a corrosive substance attack at Crawley railway station in West Sussex in March.

Wade Richards, 24, of Three Bridges Road, Crawley, stood before Crawley Magistrates' Court on 22nd April.

He faces charges including Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent, Possession of a Corrosive Substance, and Possession of a Bladed Article.

Richards has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 7th May.

Authorities responded to the incident at Crawley railway station shortly after 11.20pm on 7th March.

A man in his 30s was reported to have been assaulted by three men.

One among them allegedly threw a corrosive substance at the victim, before further chasing and kicking him once he had fallen.

The attackers then fled the scene.

The victim suffered chemical burns considered potentially life-changing and was treated at the hospital.

Although discharged, he continues to recover from his injuries.
