Man charged after assault on police officers in East Grinstead

A man has been charged, after an incident in East Grinstead, in which two police officers were assaulted.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance on a bus at around midday on Wednesday, 17 June.

During the incident, two officers were assaulted while carrying out their duties. After inquiries, a suspect was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Kenzie Sotgiu, 21, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a bladed article, and possession of cannabis.

Sotgiu appeared before Crawley Magistrates' Court on 18 June, where he was granted bail to appear again in November 2026.

Sergeant Tom Webb, from Crawley Response Team, said: "Our officers work hard to keep people safe and should be able to carry out their duties without being subjected to violence or abuse. Reports of assaults against emergency workers are taken extremely seriously and will always be thoroughly investigated."
