Disruption at major A&E unit serving West Sussex
It's as work gets underway to support the build of a new Urgent Treatment Centre at East Surrey Hospital
Disruption's expected at a major hospital serving West Sussex from today - as work gets underway to support the build of a new Urgent Treatment Centre.
A temporary one-way traffic system will be in place until June 23rd at East Surrey Hospital.
It's so work can take place to connect underground mains utilities to what will be the new UTC site - which is expected to open next year.
Sussex and Surrey NHS Healthcare Trust said it would be "working to minimise disruption while ensuring patients can continue to access services safely", as well as sharing updates on the works.
Alex Stamp, Chief Operating Officer for Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust said:
“While we have worked with our local partners, including Metrobus, the council and the ambulance service, to schedule these essential works that will support the building of our new Urgent Treatment Centre.
We recognise this will cause disruption and additional congestion at peak times on our East Surrey Hospital site."
“We are working to minimise this as much as possible and encourage all visitors and patients attending the hospital to allow extra time for their journey.”
Where will be disrupted?
From the 1st-23rd of June, the Trust said the following changes will be in place:
"Canada Avenue will become one-way, and you will not be able to exit the site to the Three Arches Road roundabout during the works.
The only exit from the hosptial will be via our south exit (Canada Drive) onto Three Arches road.
"You can also enter from here, but the road will be closed from goods in to the roundabout on Canada Avenue.
"A road closure will be in place.
Bus services will remain fully operational throughout
All other traffic will be diverted via the South exit onto Three Arches Road, excluding buses, main entrance drop-offs and pick-ups, and emergency vehicles."
