Henfield residents rally against overdevelopment
They're taking part in a National Day of Action to highlight their concerns about more homes being built there
Henfield residents are today raising awareness of the impact over development could have on their village.
It's as communities across the country today stage a National Day of Action, to highlight their concerns over what building new homes could have on the environment.
The event, which is taking place between 10am and 3pm, includes talks on things like biodiversity and flooding, as well as guided tours highlighting how house building could affect the village.
It follows concerns over plans to build around 1400 homes there, which would in increase the village's population by more than half.
In a statement shared online, group Campaign to Protect Rural Henfield described the village as "under threat from rampant development".
The campaign has been backed by local MP Andrew Griffith, who said:
“People in Henfield really care.
"They care about nature, the special ‘feel’ of their community, and that it continues to have the right balance between developments and the infrastructure – GP capacity, school places, clear rivers – that make it a sustainable to place to live.
"That is why I have long-supported Campaign to Protect Rural Henfield and residents in their aims to protect Henfield and surrounding villages from developers’ threats to bulldoze through neighbourhood plans and green spaces.”
