Hastings burst water main repair completed as bottled water stations prepared
Southern Water is recharging the pipe and preparing precautionary measures
Southern Water has completed repairs to a burst water main north of Hastings that prompted concerns over supplies in the area.
The new section of pipe was installed just after 9am today. Work is now underway to safely recharge the pipe and restore water to supply works, which may take several hours.
Southern Water said that any disruption is expected to be limited, with potential loss of supply only likely from mid-evening.
In the meantime, bottled water is being delivered to customers on the Priority Services Register as a precaution. The company is also preparing to open bottled water stations later today if needed. Locations and details of the collection process will be shared when these stations are ready.
Southern Water acknowledged the potential impact any disruption might have on local businesses, particularly those operating in the night-time economy. Plans are in place for businesses to collect water from bottled water stations.
They expressed gratitude to the Hastings community for maintaining normal water usage levels during the repair process.
