Elderly woman and dog hit by car near Hailsham

A22 near Hailsham is closed following the incident

An elderly woman is receiving treatment in hospital after being hit by a car on the A22 near Hailsham this morning.

The collision, which took place at around 7.30am, involved a white Volvo XC40 and the pedestrian, who was walking her dog at the time.

The driver of the Volvo was not injured in the incident.

The woman's dog has been taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Due to the seriousness of the collision, the A22 is closed in both directions between the Eagles roundabout and the roundabout at Diplocks Way.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Sussex Police are requesting that any witnesses or individuals with information, including dashcam footage, report to them online quoting Operation Meadows.
