Two men charged in rape case involving 14-year-old girl in Eastbourne

Suspects due in court following police investigation

Two men have been charged in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Eastbourne, as Sussex Police continues its investigation into the incident.

The rape reportedly occurred at an address in the town between 2.30am and 7am on Saturday, 23rd May.

Police have arrested and charged two suspects.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Miguel Dasilva, aged 39, from Longland Road, Eastbourne, a Portuguese national, faces three counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, one count of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, and engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Adam Hendrick, aged 40, from Walton Close, Eastbourne, a British national, has been charged with the rape of a girl aged 13-15 and four counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15.

Both appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court, Dasilva on 27th May and Hendrick on 28th May, and were remanded in custody.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for 24th June at Lewes Crown Court.

Support and Investigation

Detective Inspector Steve Shimmons highlighted Sussex Police's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG), noting, “From the moment we received the report of this incident, we have been working relentlessly to identify and arrest the suspects.”

The victim is being supported by specialist officers, and the investigation is ongoing, with officers collaborating with partner agencies for her safeguarding and support.

Shimmons acknowledged the courage it takes for victims to report such offences and affirmed the police's dedication to gathering evidence for the ongoing court proceedings.
