Man jailed for stealing Asda van in Eastbourne
The 30 year old tested positive for cocaine following a drugs wipe check
A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 26 months in prison after stealing an Asda van in Eastbourne.
Shane Brett was arrested on 30th January following a tactical police operation that began at Sovereign Harbour Retail Park in Pevensey Bay Road.
Sussex Police tracked the stolen vehicle and successfully stopped it in The Fairway, Newhaven.
At the scene, Brett tested positive for cocaine following a drugs wipe check.
He was arrested and charged on 31st January with theft of a motor vehicle, burglary other than a dwelling, driving dangerously, and driving without insurance.
Brett appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court later that day where he pleaded guilty to all charges.
He was remanded in custody and on 12th March, Lewes Crown Court sentenced Brett to 26 months in jail and banned him from driving for four years.
