Man jailed for knife-point robbery in East Grinstead
Bailey Crowhurst sentenced to eight years after threatening shop worker and causing damage.
A 21-year-old man has been jailed following a robbery at knifepoint and a violent disorder at a petrol station in East Grinstead.
Bailey Crowhurst, of no fixed address, admitted stealing alcohol and tobacco after threatening a shop worker with a large knife in a shop on London Road on 27th July 2024.
The victim was left distressed after Crowhurst demanded goods worth up to £400.
Crowhurst was arrested in connection with the robbery on 12th September. He was charged with robbery and possession of a knife and appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 16th September, where he was released on bail.
Then on 30th September 2024, Crowhurst was involved in a violent disorder at a petrol station in Station Road. He threw numerous wine bottles toward another man inside and caused damage, including smashed fridge doors. A shop worker told police that up to 15 bottles were thrown during the incident.
Crowhurst was arrested again on 2nd October and was remanded in custody following an appearance at Crawley Magistrates’ Court the next day.
He pleaded guilty to charges of robbery, possession of a knife in a public place, and affray. At Lewes Crown Court on 3rd October, Crowhurst was sentenced to five years in prison, with a further three years added as an extended sentence for dangerousness.
