A court has heard that the death of a 65-year-old woman in Worthing was caused by strangulation and a stab wound to the neck.

Alexandru Nechifor appeared at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday (20 May), facing charges of murder in connection with the woman's death.

During the brief hearing, prosecutor Richard Jory KC disclosed that a full post-mortem examination had been conducted, revealing that the woman died due to both strangulation and a severe stab wound to the neck.

Sussex Police were called to a residence on Durrington Lane, Durrington in Worthing, on 14th May at approximately 7.50pm after receiving reports expressing concern for the welfare of a woman.

At an earlier court proceeding at Worthing Magistrates' Court, the woman was identified as Antoneta Mirt.

Police received two calls about the incident from a male caller, and upon arrival, officers were directed by the man to another room where the woman was found dead.

Nechifor, 37, of Durrington Lane, Worthing, also faces charges of assaulting a police constable during their duty.

The plea hearing is scheduled for 6th August, with a provisional trial date set for 2nd November.
