Drunk driver sentenced after killing highways worker

A drunk driver has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after killing a highways worker near Gatwick.
Vilius Domarkas was more than two times the limit when he veered into a coned lane off the M23 Junction 9, hitting Anthony Howe.
Dashcam footage captured before the crash showed the 38-year-old driving “erratically”, later slurring his words and falling over when he was confronted by police.
He admitted causing death by dangerous driving in August. He was sentenced today at Lewes Crown Court to ten years in jail. He has also been banned from driving for 16 years and 8 months.
Speaking at the time of his plea, Detective Constable Kelly Newton from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is another tragic example of drink-driving which has had devastating consequences."
“Domarkas was in no fit state to drive that night, and his own vehicle’s dashcam footage showed him driving erratically prior to the fatal collision."
“He has caused the death of a highways worker and put the lives of all other road users at risk when he got behind the wheel."
“Our thoughts continue to be with the family of the highways worker who died.”
