Two men sentenced for grievous bodily harm after Brighton man's death

Two men have been sentenced at Brighton Crown Court for their roles in a violent attack that led to the death of a 34-year-old man in Brighton in 2019.
Oliver Priddle, 26, of Peacock Lane, Brighton, and Niraj Amaidas, 25, of Colwyn Close, Crawley, were convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following a trial that began on 3rd June.
The trial concluded on 7th July, with the jury finding both men guilty in connection to the assault on Cameron Devlin in the early hours of 21st December 2019.
Cameron Devlin was attacked after falling asleep outside a shop in North Street, Brighton.
He suffered shoulder injuries and facial lacerations during the incident.
Despite medical treatment, he died of sepsis five days later, on 26th December 2019, a complication arising from his injuries.
An investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service resulted in charges being authorised on 13th August 2025.
Following their convictions, Priddle and Amaidas have now been sentenced.
Amaidas has been sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended for three years. Priddle was sentenced to two years and nine months imprisonment, suspended for two years and nine months.
Detective Inspector James Meanwell reflected on the case, acknowledging the dedication of those involved in the investigation.
He said: “This has been an exceptionally complex investigation, requiring extensive enquiries and specialist medical expertise to establish the link between the assault, the injury Cameron sustained and his death.”
Cameron was remembered as a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, with his loved ones continuing to feel his loss deeply.
