Crawley Borough Council has launched a consultation asking for residents' opinions on how a town council could look.

It's as the town seeks to maintain it's a local voice as government plans to ditch local councils - including Crawley Borough - for a unitary, mayor-led authority progress.

In the previous consultation conducted in October 2025, 72% of responses showed support for creating a town council.

A new consultation is now asking residents for specific recommendations, including the framework for ward names, boundaries, and the number of town councillors for each ward.

Councillor Michael Jones, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, explained the importance of a town council:

Councillor Michael Jones, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, said: “The creation of a town council for Crawley would enable some local services and facilities to be run locally, rather than at a unitary authority level.

“Whether you live or work in Crawley or have any other interest in the town, please take the time to tell us what you think. Your views are important in shaping proposals for the future of Crawley.”

The proposed unitary council would operate across a broader area, meaning Crawley would lose its current distinct voice and influence over local services and facilities.

The consultation is open until the 31st of March and can be completed here.
