Crawley man charged after firearms warrant in Three Bridges

Seven other people have been arrested and bailed.

A man has been charged following a firearms warrant carried out at a property in Crawley.

Officers executed the warrant in the Three Bridges area during the early hours of Thursday, 15th January as part of an investigation into firearms-related offences.

During the search, officers safely seized suspected firearms components and ammunition.

Emil Kavaldzhiev, 56, from Farm Close in Crawley, appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court on Monday, 19th January.

He has been charged with several firearms-related offences including:

Manufacture or sale of a firearm by a person who is not a registered dealer

Possession of a prohibited weapon

Possession of offensive weapons in a private place

Kavaldzhiev has been bailed with conditions to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 16th February.

Seven other individuals, four men aged 33, 26, 21, and 18, and three women aged 55, 30, and 18, were arrested at the address. They have been released on bail while investigations continue.

Superintendent Imran Asghar said: “Officers have completed a safe and successful warrant at an address in Three Bridges, which has resulted in a man being charged.

“I want to reassure residents that there is not believed to be any ongoing risk to the wider community, and that the weapons recovered have been safely removed.

“We are committed to keeping our communities safe and will take robust action where firearms-related offences are identified.

“We would continue to encourage anyone with concerns or information to report suspicious activity to us.”
