Horsham's iconic Capitol theatre is shutting it's doors later on for its first major refurbishment in over two decades.

Work's being done to improve seating, toilets, cinema screens and accessibility in its first site-wide upgrades since 2002.

As well as adding more women's toilets to cut queues during intervals, a Changing Places facility is being created.

Plans also mean better seating arrangements for disabled people - giving them a better viewing position and space to sit with friends and family.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Culture and Green Spaces Cllr David Skipp, said:

“This is a hugely exciting moment for us.

"After more than 20 years since its last refurbishment, The Capitol is ready for a bold, vibrant new era.

"This investment will bring major improvements for all our customers – from the moment people step through the doors to the final curtain call.

“It is such a positive milestone for the town and broader District and I’m delighted that we are securing the future of such a beloved venue for generations to come."
