There's calls for the government to better protect our pleasure piers as the future of Eastbourne's becomes uncertain.
A petition's been launched after reports the company which owns it has gone into liquidation.
It's hoped to get Ministers to work with local communities, relevant stakeholders and heritage organisations to figure out what support is available to safeguard others like it.
It's been started by Josh Babarinde, the town's MP, who described the pier as 'the beating heart' of Eastbourne:
"It plays a vital role in our local economy and is central to our town's identity and heritage.
"I am determined to explore every possible option to help safeguard Eastbourne Pier for future generations.
"That is why I have launched this petition calling on the Government to work with local communities like ours and with heritage organisations to identify what support can be provided to protect this much-loved landmark and others like it across the country”.
The government has been contacted for comment.
