New mental health support services are launching in Brighton this week.

It's hoped to make it easier for disadvantaged groups to get mental health support in the city.

From Wednesday, work's being done to better identify challenges and offer support with people's physical health and mental wellbeing.

The same service is launching across West Sussex later this year.

It's part of new NHS contracts surrounding the county's mental health services.

Offerings include more advice, information, and guidance via physical or virtual appointments, including online self-help, peer support, and work in the community to reduce stigma.

Dr James Ramsey, chief medical officer at NHS Sussex, said: “We are delighted to be working with Southdown and BHT Sussex, and their partners, to deliver these vital new services for local people.

“Improving mental health services, and tackling health inequalities, are priorities for us, and these new services represent an important step in transforming how people access support in their communities.

“By focusing on prevention, early intervention, and tackling inequalities, these services will help more people get the right support, at the right time, and in the right place.”
