Alieu George, 46, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the rape of a woman in Dorset Gardens, Brighton.

George, who has no fixed address, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration after a trial concluded last December.

Court proceedings revealed that members of the public saw a man and a woman in the park area at 9.05am on Sunday 22nd June 2025.

The woman appeared distressed and was later seen on the ground with George lying on top of her.

Three witnesses recognized her distress and alerted the police. Officers arriving at the scene discovered the woman distraught, with George nearby.

He claimed the woman was his girlfriend.

The 35-year-old victim informed police that she had gone for drinks after work when George approached her.

He isolated her from her group under false pretenses and made repeated attempts to sexually assault her, ultimately leading her to Dorset Gardens where the rape occurred.

George was arrested at the scene and charged with the offense the same day.

Following his conviction, he was remanded in custody and appeared for sentencing on 10th March at Brighton Crown Court.

George received a sentence of 15 years, with 12 years in custody and three years on an extended license.

An indefinite restraining order was also placed against him.

Detective Constable Daisy Alden commented, "The victim has shown immense courage and determination in this investigation."

She added, "Alieu George preyed on the victim and he presents a clear danger to women. The streets of Brighton and Sussex are safer now he will remain behind bars."
