A man behind Arlington's Bluebell Walk is hoping it'll be able to help "generations to come" by transforming it into a charitable trust.

John McCutchan is hoping to get the ball rolling when he turns 90 later this year.

The trail has raised over one million pounds for local charities - beginning humbly as a project between the 89-year-old and his wife, Carolyn, in 1972 to help fundraise for a local school's swimming pool.

"We opened for one weekend - and many visitors said can you open again next weekend, we'd like to bring granny."

Now run in Carolyn's memory, the bluebell walks have been held there annually since then and raised more than £1.1 million for dozens of charities.

The site has previously seen up to 20,000 visitors.

When asked what Carolyn would make of the couple's achievements, John said:

"She would love it, same as I do."
