A Sussex mum whose son was killed by a drink driver has launched a petition urging for those who kill behind the wheel to receive a lifetime driving ban.
Tracy Venison's teenage son Aidan was killed on his way home from an outing with friends, just days before his twentieth birthday.
Behind the wheel was 28-year-old Toby Spiring - who was jailed for eight years.
After his sentence, just five years and an extended test blocks him from driving again.
"I was absolutely dumbfound, heartbroken as well to think that he could actually do this again to another family," Tracy told Greatest Hits Radio.
"What is the most severe thing a person has to do to have their license removed?
"Because I would have thought taking someone's life was a severe enough thing to happen for you to lose your driving licence."
In the petition, Tracy writes that current laws "fail to deter repeat offenders and protect innocent people" - and she hopes changing them would offer justice to others who have lost loved ones.
"This isn't a cure for everything," she added.
"But we've got to start somewhere with a really severe deterrent.
"If there's any chance of them losing your license for a lifetime, then you have to think seriously about whether you actually want to get behind the wheel of that car after you've had your third drink."
