Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air ambulance is urging drivers to take extra care ahead of a seasonal spike in call outs.

It's after calls to help people hurt in crashes jumped by 24% this time last year, with good weather among factors encouraging more drivers onto the road.

Richard de Coverley, Head of Operational Delivery at KSS said: ā€œWe expect to see an increase in the number of vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists, cyclists, horse riders, and pedestrians."

"We all need to exercise extra caution around these groups.ā€

Meanwhile, Duncan Bootland, the air ambulance's Medical Director, added that speed is a huge factor in incidents they attend on the roads.

"The higher the speed the the greater the potential for serious injury," he explained.

"So adhering to the speed limits is a fundamentally important thing, but so are other aspects such as wearing a seatbelt and for a motorcyclist, making sure they're wearing protective gear and the right helmet."

"We see a number of incidents at night and so taking extra care when it is dark, and absolutely drinking alcohol and then getting on a motorcycle or getting in a car is something nobody should ever do."

The charity is sharing the message as part of it's mission to end preventable loss of life.
