82-year-old man seriously injured in Eastbourne crash

Police have made an arrest after it happened near the Langney Shopping Centre

An 82-year-old pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision involving a car in Eastbourne.

The collision happened opposite the Langney Shopping Centre in Willingdon Drove, near the junction with Friday Street, at just after 5.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 19th).

Sussex Police said the car involved was a silver Toyota Yaris.

The man, who is from the town, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment and remained there as of Wednesday morning.

A 64-year-old local man, the driver of the Toyota, was not injured.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving, and drug-driving. He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision, and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward.

In particular, anyone with dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage from the area at the time is asked to come forward.
