Three 7-year-old friends have accomplished an impressive feat by climbing Mount Snowdon to raise funds for the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
Three 7-year-old friends have accomplished an impressive feat by climbing Mount Snowdon to raise funds for the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
Jax Woodley, Antonio Schiavo, and Abel Trafford have been friends since they began playing football together four years ago.
The young Woking FC supporters were inspired by the club's support for the Hospice and decided to take on the challenge.
They wanted to give back to their community while creating an unforgettable experience.
Craig Woodley, Jax’s father, led the trio up the 1,085-metre mountain, the tallest in England and Wales.
“We left home at 7am and drove 5 hours to the base of Mount Snowdon,” Craig said.
“The minute we arrived, we were out of the car and straight up the mountain.
For the initial half hour, I honestly doubted that we could do it, but we managed to just get through sections bit by bit and get it done.”
The train service that was intended to carry them back down was not operational, meaning the group had to spend almost three more hours trekking home.
The boys shared their feelings on the successful journey.
“It was hard climbing up against the wind and getting dust in my eyes,” Jax said.
Abel shared, “It was so windy at the top but doing this challenge with my best friends made me feel good about myself.”
Antonio expressed his excitement, noting, “Walking up the mountain was really fun and challenging, and it was exciting to get to the summit, even though it was hard in the wind.”
Their efforts proved fruitful, raising a notable £7,661 for the Hospice.
This sum is equivalent to funding 74 counselling sessions for children receiving care at Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
