Work has begun on a new £1 million football pitch at Merstham Park School that will be open to the wider community as well as pupils.

The FIFA-standard 3G pitch is expected to be completed before the start of the new school year and will become the home ground of Merstham FC.

Local grassroots teams, community groups and residents will also be able to use the all-weather facility, which can host matches ranging from 5-a-side to full 11-a-side games.

The project has been funded by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, the Football Foundation and GLF Schools, with supporters saying it will help boost access to sport across the area.
