Police seek witnesses to attack outside Methodist church

Police are seeking witnesses after a woman in her 20s reported being raped in Epsom during the early hours of Saturday, 11th April.

The woman was followed by several men after she left Labyrinth Epsom night club.

The alleged attack occurred between 2am and 4am outside Epsom Methodist Church on Ashley Road.

Detective Inspector Aine Matthews said: “We understand this is an extremely distressing incident and the victim is being supported by specialist officers.

Our investigation is in its early stages and a team of officers have been conducting extensive enquiries today to identify and locate the suspects.

We are working at pace to develop our picture of the suspects and we will share details as soon we are able to.

Officers remain in the area and I encourage you to speak with them if you have any concerns."

Police are asking anyone who was in the area during those hours and may have seen or spoken to a distressed woman to come forward.

Witnesses, or those with dashcam footage around the time of the incident, are urged to contact police quoting PR/45260041426.

A spokesperson for the Epsom Methodist Church said: "The people of Epsom Methodist Church, and the wider London Methodist District, were shocked and heartbroken to learn the news of the crime which took place outside the church over the weekend.

"We will hold all those affected in our hearts and our prayers, and continue to offer space and support to the local community.

"We encourage anyone with information which may be useful to speak to the police immediately."
