Woking dad fundraises for charity after his son suffered a stroke the day he was born
Tom Bond's son suffered a stroke on the day he was born and has lost a quarter of his brain
A Woking dad is taking on an ultra marathon today to raise funds for the charity that supported his son following his stroke
Tom Bond's son suffered a stroke on the day he was born and has lost a quarter of his brain. Since then Tom and his family have been supported by the Stroke Association
Tom says the support he received from the Stroke Association played a huge part in his son's development
"My wife actually found the Stroke Association and they were really helpful in getting her in contact with a bunch of other associated charities, such as White Lodge.
They've all helped with physical and cognitive therapy for him to help him keep progressing and moving along
If it wasn't for the help of the Stroke Association to point us in the right direction, you could have easily been disheartened and completely felt left on your own. I think our son would otherwise be way further behind and really struggling."
Tom already has raised over £2,100 for the charity, he told us how much it means for him to be able to raise these kind of funds for the Stroke Association
"I spoke to the Stroke Association and asked them about the impact this has on them, about the impact that it really has and I think for physical therapy and things.
I think it's like 1600 pounds for one person for like a certain period of time and I think that sort of stuff is fantastic. So the more we can raise, the better, so that more people have this."
Tom adds that running feels like the appropriate way to raise money
"I've done long-distance before, like the London Marathon, and never wanted to repeat it. But now it's a chance to give back to a team that has always given their time, expertise, and care.
My son loves to run. It feels like the right way to do this."
