Will Young debuts garden design at RHS Wisley Flower Show
'Out of the Shadows' garden installation explores the concept of the 'shadow self'
British music star Will Young is making his garden design debut at the upcoming RHS Wisley Flower Show, taking place from 1st-6th September 2026.
Young has teamed up with RHS Gold Medal-winning designer Jamie Butterworth to create a unique planting installation titled 'Out of the Shadows'.
The design interprets Carl Jung's theory of the 'shadow self', which represents the parts of our psyche that remain hidden from the world.
The garden is structured with three distinct planted cubes that embody various stages of the emotional and psychological journey.
The first cube, named 'Beneath the Canopy', symbolizes the concealed aspects of one's psyche through dense and layered planting, creating an atmosphere of seclusion.
The second cube, 'Where the Light Falls', transitions to a garden with dappled shade and more open planting, capturing the moment of recognition of hidden selves.
Finally, 'Into the Open' presents a vibrant, naturalistic planting scheme with sun-loving perennials, celebrating clarity, vitality, and openness.
