Two people have been killed following a house fire in Alton.

Police and fire crews were called at 4am on Monday 14th April to reports of a fire at house in Heron Close.

Emergency services attended the scene, but a man in his 90's and a woman in her 80's were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their next of kin have been informed.

Hampshire Police have launched an investigation alongside Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the blaze.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist with the forces inquiries.

That includes anyone who has CCTV or doorbell footage in and around the area, or anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around this time.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said: "Firefighters from Alton, Basingstoke, Odiham, Rushmoor, Bordon, Alresford and Surrey Fire were called to a property in Heron Close at 03:45am on 14 April.

"Control made crews aware that two individuals had been reported as inside the building, so on arrival the crews made a rapid deployment and quickly located the individuals in the building.

"They were sadly confirmed dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used jets, hoses, and an aerial platform to extinguish the fire.

"Fire Investigation Officers have been on the scene to establish a cause. HIWFRS crews delivered community safety materials, Safe and Well visits, and reassurance messaging to neighbours before leaving the scene.
