Two elderly people die in Hampshire house fire

Two elderly people have died in a house fire as police issue an appeal for witnesses to the blaze.

Emergency services were called to the property in Heron Close, Alton, Hampshire, at 4am on Monday.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said that a man aged in his 90s and a woman in her 80s were pronounced dead at the scene.

The force spokesman said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information that could assist with our investigation into a fatal house fire in Alton.

We were called at 4am on Monday 14 April, to reports of a fire at a house in Heron Close, Alton.

Firefighters and police attended but, sadly, a man in his 90s and a woman in her 80s were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their next of kin have been informed.

An investigation is under way alongside Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire and establish the circumstances of what took place.

We would like to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist with our inquiries.

This includes anyone who has CCTV or doorbell footage in the area, or anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around this time."
