Three men have been sent to prison after admitting their involvement in a burglary that took place in Ockham in October.
The incident occurred on the evening of 10th October when a homeowner returned home at around 9:30pm to discover their house had been burgled earlier in the day.
An air rifle from a gun safe and cash were among the items stolen from the property, according to police.
The men involved were discovered later that evening by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and Dog Units after they had been pursued by officers on New Haw Road in Addlestone.
Around 5pm, police had spotted the three men in a white Ford Transit van, which drove through a red light, prompting officers to pursue it as it sped dangerously through Chertsey and Lyne before being abandoned at Wentworth Golf Club in Virginia Water.
With the assistance of thermal imaging cameras and police dogs, the men were found hiding in undergrowth near the golf club and arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle.
When the van was searched, officers discovered the stolen gun safe from the burglary as well as a personalised birthday card featuring one of the suspects, which linked them to the crime earlier in the day.
The men were sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on 28th November and jailed for 29 months each.
Charlie Stewart, 37, of Aboyne Drive, Raynes Park, was also convicted of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence.
The other two men convicted were Ben Belhaj-Farhat, 38, of no fixed address, and Junior Suban, 40, of Sullivan Court, Fulham.
All three individuals were also ordered to pay £228 in costs.
Detective Constable Josh Hillman praised the teamwork of officers, police dogs, and the NPAS in bringing the men to justice.
“Stewart was driving extremely dangerously, including on the wrong side of the road at times," he said.
"Thankfully, no one was hurt, especially as he does not have a driving licence.
“This was a great result off the back of some excellent teamwork, enabling us to locate all three men and bring them to justice.”
