Surrey and East Hampshire company preparing to launch its 80th satellite into space.
We spoke to Surrey Satellite Technology at this year's Farnborough international airshow.
A surrey and east Hampshire company have been telling us why the Farnborough international airshow is so important to them.
Surrey satellite technology employ around 350 space engineers in Guildford and Bordon making micro-satellites about the size of your home washing machine.
The company have existed for 45 years and began as a spin off from the University of Surrey
Head of marketing Andrew Greenhalgh says the airshow is perfect for meeting current and potential clients
"We're here in the space zone in Hall 4 mainly because of the international delegations that will come here. The UK Space Agency is here, they're one of our customers.
So for us it's about supporting the British space industry but also being at a place where we can meet our international customers as well who come in for this event."
Andrew added meeting people at the show can often lead to another satellite launch:
"What tends to happen is we will meet people here and talk about things here that could result in a space mission in three, four, five years time.
And we look back on the event at Farnborough as a key part of the way we promote the company and take it to the outside world."
Andrew says he believes many people won't realise that locally built satellites are floating above them
"We've launched 79 satellites since we started and we've got number 80 going up in October this year.
So they're all still up in space, they're in low Earth orbit, they've eventually come down after the end of their life but some of them are higher than that but most of are about 500 or 600 kilometres in orbit above us at the moment."
